Grants and Scholarships
Grants for Research Travel
Grants are available to help postgraduates and, in particular, PhD candidates, defray some of the costs associated with their research. The most common grants are listed below, but other 'one-off' grants become available from time to time. Students considering travel - for research or conference - should discuss this with their supervisor in the first instance, and should check with the School of Social and Environmental Enquiry, with the Faculty of Arts, with the School of Graduate Studies and with the Scholarships Office for sources of funding within the University.
Departmental Grants
SSEE supports students on a case by case basis and provides limited funds to support conference travel both within Australia and overseas. Typically, students are required to present a paper at a conference and to apply for funding in advance of the travel to receive departmental grants. Students may only be funded for one conference per year.
Some funds are also available to meet special research costs, with students submitting an application for support as soon as costs are known. Applications, for whatever purpose, will not be considered unless they are endorsed by the student's supervisor.
